Summary: The Cable Manufacturing Engineer develops and executes designs of next generation of cable manufacturing equipment. Works both independently and collaboratively to design, develop future manufacturing systems and continuously improve current manufacturing systems. Manufacturing systems include but are not limited to Equipment, Tooling, Fixtures and Gages. Continuous improvement initiatives will target key metrics including the areas of Safety, Quality, Throughput and Cost.
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:
- Designs new manufacturing equipment and optimizes the design of existing solutions.
- Interface with Product Design and Process Engineering to understand the differentiating product characteristics and the associated Critical to Quality manufacturing parameters required of the processes and equipment.
- Interface with manufacturing personnel to understand current and future manufacturing capability and capacity constraints.
- Prioritize and respond to quality problems. Can apply sound problem-solving strategies and report findings and results to the team.
- Ensure that Product Quality and Process Reliability are designed into each project from the start.
- Provides cost estimates for tooling and assembly. Reviews and update estimates throughout project lifecycles.
- Leads and contributes to the assembly and debugging of new or re-engineered solutions.
- Coordinates qualification with manufacturing personnel.
- Ensures the project delivered is compliant with all relevant OSHA and local standards with respect to design and engineering work practices.
- Conduct or participate in regular project/schedule meetings.
- Record, address and resolves issues that impact project timing and/or scope.
- Actively participate in product and tooling design review meetings.
- Ensure that all tooling changes/modifications are properly requested, executed, implemented and documented.
The responsibilities as defined are intended to serve as a general guideline for this position. Associates may be asked to perform additional tasks depending on strengths and capabilities
Required Experience:
Required Experience:
- 10+ years Equipment Design or Machine Design experience required.
- Experience designing tooling & equipment.
- 3D CAD experience is required. Solidworks is preferred.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret part/tooling drawings including the application of GD&T.
- Strong knowledge of tooling fabrication processes including material selection and tolerance.
- Meticulous, strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Six Sigma certification is preferred.
- Lean manufacturing training is preferred.
- Knowledge of industrial control systems.
- Strong English verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to work in a demanding environment providing accurate and timely output to a high standard.
Required Education:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering.
