General Description
Lake County Public Works is seeking an Engineering summer intern to work from May through August. Becoming an Engineering intern with the Lake County Public Works will allow you to perform work of routine difficulty in basic para-professional engineering assignments or beginning level engineering work performed in a training capacity.
Essential Functions
Perform work of routine difficulty in basic para-professional engineering assignments or beginning level engineering work performed in a training capacity.
Observe field construction and document construction progress with photographs and written summaries.
Collect GPS location/elevation data.
Review underground utility locate requests.
Other duties may include data analysis, assessing water or sewer system performance, reviewing and summarizing technical reports, or analyzing water use records.
You can expect to spend 75% of your time in the field, gaining experience in construction practices and understanding how design plans are executed.
Your day will consist of working directly with higher level technicians and professional engineers.
Requirements
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required
Must have the ability and willingness to learn engineering tasks and procedures.
You can expect to spend a certain amount of time performing miscellaneous administrative tasks, such as scanning documents.
Must have the ability to work both individually and in a team environment.
Must have the ability to use engineering equipment, and testing devices, including computers and software.
Education and/or Other Requirements:
Students who have taken engineering classes are encouraged to apply.
Must have the ability to work both individually and in a team atmosphere.
Possession of a valid driver’s license, supplemented by a satisfactory driving record.
Basic use of computer is required.
Physical Requirements:
You can expect to spend approximately 50% of your time in the field in all weather conditions.
This role is 40 hours a week Monday through Friday.
Your start and end time will be determined by your supervisor.
The internship will run from mid-May through mid-August.
