We have an exciting opportunity for a Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Systems Engineer - Space Exploration Avionics Systems supporting the NASA Spaceflight Programs in the area of EMI/EMC at the systems level support within the Avionics System Division EV5 Branch.
We are seeking a motivated Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Systems Engineer with a strong background in Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) to join our multidisciplinary aerospace engineering team. This role is ideal for candidates with 25 years of experience in requirements development, derivation, implementation, and verification who are looking to expand into the specialized field of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3).
If selected, as an Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Systems Engineer you will:
- Report directly to the Electronics and Electrical Section Manager as part of a group of 45 other Electronics and Electrical Engineers.
- Work with other EMI/EMC engineers in support of the Avionics Division on-site at NASA Johnson Space Center.
- Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and test engineering teams to ensure our systems meet stringent EMI/EMC and E3 compliance standards, while also contributing to system-level integration and verification activities. Your work will ensure system resilience against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and compatibility (EMC) challenges, supporting both product development and testing across multiple programs.
- Develop, derive, and maintain system-level E3 requirements from customer specifications and industry standards.
- Collaborate with design teams to ensure E3 considerations are integrated early in the development lifecycle.
- Proactively identify missed, ambiguous, or conflicting requirements and work with stakeholders to resolve gaps.
- Create and execute verification plans , including test procedures for EMI/EMC compliance.
- Conduct and participate in formal safety reviews, ensuring compliance with safety-critical design and operational requirements.
- Support requirements traceability using tools such as IBM DOORS or equivalent.
- Participate in design reviews and technical interchange meetings, presenting findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Analyze test data and prepare clear, concise technical reports .
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve E3-related issues during integration and test phases.

Requisition Qualifications:

- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- 25 years of experience in Systems Engineering & Integration .
- Demonstrated experience in requirements writing, derivation, implementation, and verification .
- Strong presentation and communication skills with experience briefing leadership and customers.
- Proficiency with technical documentation.
Preferences:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field from an accredited engineering school.
- Experience participating in safety reviews and/or hazard analysis processes.
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC concepts and testing methods.
- Experience with E3 engineering in aerospace or defense applications.
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-464, RTCA DO-160, or similar E3 compliance standards.
- Proficient in MS Office programs, particularly MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote and Outlook.

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
