Job Overview
Aurex is seeking an experienced and hands-on Lead Electrical Technician / Production Manager to oversee PCB design, fabrication, assembly, and wire harness production for next-generation spacecraft, aircraft, and robotic systems. This leadership role combines advanced technical expertise in high-reliability electronics with production management responsibilities to ensure Class 3 quality standards are met throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, fabrication, assembly, and testing of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and wire harnesses to IPC Class 3 standards
- Develop and maintain assembly procedures, work instructions, and operating procedures for PCB and cable harness production
- Perform root cause analysis and investigations to identify issues and implement corrective solutions
- Build, rework, repair, and inspect Printed Wiring Assemblies, RMAs, cable harnesses, high-level assemblies, and subassemblies to IPC Class 3 standards
- Integrate subassemblies and high-level assemblies while maintaining IPC Class 3 compliance
- Oversee manufacturing output generation including BOMs, FAB drawings, Gerber layers, ODB++, NC drill, Step files, and 3D PDFs
- Collaborate with fabrication houses on DFM reviews, send RFQs, and present options to program managers and stakeholders
- Conduct peer reviews of PCB designs, attend schematic and layout reviews, and provide technical feedback
- Manage production workflows, ensure manufacturability under tight constraints, and coordinate with document control for proper release
- Supervise and train technicians in soldering, troubleshooting, inspection, and testing processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, thermal engineers, and project managers to establish proper interfaces
Basic Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field with significant industry experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in high-reliability PCB design, fabrication, and assembly (aerospace/defense preferred)
- Proven expertise designing PCBs to IPC Class 3 standards using Altium Designer
- Extensive experience with multilayer boards, mixed signals, high current requirements, multiple grounds, DDR2, flex/rigid-flex, and controlled impedance stack-ups
- Strong circuit troubleshooting, soldering, and testing skills using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, function generators, LCR meters, and thermal chambers.
- Demonstrated ability to perform DRCs, DFMs, root cause analysis, and peer reviews
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified IPC trainer or technician/trainer
- Experience developing manufacturing outputs and collaborating with fab shops on RFQ processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Altium Designer
- Background in AC/DC circuits, digital circuits, and solid-state fundamentals
- Leadership or supervisory experience in an electronics production environment
