FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT OFFICER (FOIA)
CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION
Number of Positions: 1
(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)
Starting Salary: $68,616; Grade: B-13

This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• As the FOIA Officer for a large and complex organization you will respond to FOIA requests for information filed by
citizens, journalists and outside entities.
• Research, examine, and analyze documents to provide responsive records in accordance with the existing Illinois FOIA statute.
• Manages responses to hundreds of annual Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests received by the CDA.
• Works closely with other departments, including the Mayor's Office and the Department of Law, to draft departmental correspondence.
• Assists with the preparation of departmental reports.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Additional duties may be required for this position.
CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION
Location: 10510 West Zemke Road
Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, English or a directly related field, plus two (2) years research and analysis work experience OR
• Six (6) years of research and analysis work experience OR
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Journalism, Communications, English or a directly related field, plus four (4) years research and analysis work experience OR
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree or higher in Journalism, Communications, English or a directly related field, plus one (1) year research and analysis work experience
Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications
Certification by the State of Illinois as a Freedom of Information Officer is required, within six (6) months of hire
Disclaimer - "Accredited" means any nationally or regionally accredited college, university, or law school where the applicant is enrolled in or has completed an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Juris Doctorate degree program.

NOTE: The candidate selected for hire must pass an airport background check and a Security Threat Assessment (STA)
Selection Requirements
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position based on the oral and written interview, will be selected.
