Heavy Equipment/Specialty Desk Appraiser
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible for evaluating damage and preparing repair estimates for heavy equipment and specialty vehicles involved in insurance claims. This role requires strong technical knowledge, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with repair facilities to ensure accurate and timely claim resolution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review photos, documentation, and other claim materials to assess damage.
- Prepare detailed repair estimates using approved industry-standard software.
- Evaluate repair vs. replace decisions and determine appropriate parts usage.
- Assess whether vehicles are repairable or should be deemed salvage.
- Collaborate with repair facilities to process supplements and update estimates.
- Negotiate scope of repairs and pricing with repair facilities.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Supports the organization's quality program(s).
- Travels as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensing
High school diploma or GED required. Licenses as required.
Experience
Three (3) years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required to include at least one (1) year of heavy equipment experience.
Skills & Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of operating heavy equipment
- Ability to understand and utilize appraisal software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
- PC literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products
- Analytical and interpretive skills
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment
- Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical:
- Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
- Must be able to kneel, squat or bend.
- Must be able to work outdoors in hot and/or cold weather conditions.
- Have the ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, reaching/working overhead,
- Be able lift/carry up to 50 pounds
- Be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
- Be able to drive up to 4 hours per day.
