Description

This position reports directly to the Vice Principal and works under the guidance of the Engineering Department Head. This position is designed to provide instruction to engineering students from QMED to Chief Engineer Unlimited Propulsive Power, and to assist and support the efforts of Curriculum Development Department in the development and implementation of engineering courses and programs.  
The person filling this role will be responsible for the following: 

1. Provide instruction in support of MPT students seeking engineering licenses and certifications. 
2. Ensuring assigned MPT engineering courses are delivered in accordance with the Instructor Manual and the regulatory guidance as determined by the approving authority. 
3. Assisting in the development of courses as a subject matter expert to fulfill national and international requirements (including STCW and other conventions) of training and assessment for Deck and Engine personnel. 

Requirements

Candidates must have:

1. Must have legal authority to work in the United States.
2. Experience, training, or evidence of instruction in effective instructional and assessment techniques. This may come in the form of a "Train-the-Trainer" course completion certificate; where the course is a 35 or 40 hour course that is substantially similar to IMO Model Course 6.09 "Training Course for Instructors" (this can be provided at MPT if candidate does not possess a current certificate).
3. At least three years experience as Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer, or the officer in charge of an engine watch on vessels of at least 3,000 kW / 4,000 HP with a manned engine room or equivalent military experience; AND
4. At least one year experience in the engine room of vessels of at least 1600 GRT/3000 GT as a Chief Engineer, Unlimited, endorsed for the motor propulsion mode. The steam propulsion mode endorsement is also required but may be associated with a lower level license, Second Assistant Engineer, Unlimited (or higher).
5. Consideration may also be given to military ratings of Engineman, Machinery Technician, or Watercraft Engineer with at least three years of shipboard experience as a qualified engineering watch supervisor or engineering officer.
