Position Summary:
The Crane Systems Painter will use paint application techniques and equipment to professionally finish manufactured surfaces. The Crane Painter will play a critical role in ensuring that cranes are properly prepared, primed, and painted to meet quality standards, customer requirements, and industry regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Comply with NACE requirements for surface preparation, painting and documentation.
- Prepare crane surfaces by cleaning, sanding, and removing rust, dirt, or old paint using appropriate tools and techniques, per paint spec requirements.
- Mask off areas that should not be painted, such as mechanical components and sensitive areas.
- Apply primer coats to crane surfaces to ensure proper adhesion of the paint and to prevent corrosion.
- Apply paint top coats following the paint specifications.
- Ensure consistent coverage and thickness of paint layers while avoiding drips or streaks.
- Inspect painted surfaces for imperfections, bubbles, or inconsistencies and make necessary touch-ups or adjustments.
- Collaborate with the Quality Control team to ensure that painted cranes meet quality standards.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines for paint application, ventilation, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate as a doer and inspector for quality control within the QMS.
- Dispose of paint waste and materials in an environmentally responsible manner.
- Clean and maintain paint equipment, including brushes, rollers, and spray guns, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Maintain accurate records of paint colors used, paint quantities, and work performed.
- Complete painting logs and reports for quality assurance purposes.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as production and quality control, to ensure smooth workflow and timely crane finishing.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Successful knowledge of NACE requirements.
- Proven experience as a painter, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Proficiency in various painting techniques and equipment, including spray guns, brushes and rollers.
- Knowledge of different types of paints, primers, and coatings used for metal surfaces.
- Attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality finishes.
- Familiarity with safety protocols related to paint application and hazardous materials.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Physical stamina and ability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Understanding of color mixing and matching techniques is a plus.
Education and Experience
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship program, previous experience, or on-the-job training required.
Work Environment
- Prolonged periods of standing and painting.
- Must have adequate balance and ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to distinguish among colors.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in welding and fabrication is preferred.
