Job Title: Principal Systems Engineer

Overview:
As a Principal Systems Engineer (Cloud Operations), you will lead subject matter experts that serve as the go-to person for Cloud needs within the Datacenter and Cloud Services team. Attend design sessions and planning meetings to solution designs that cross the credit union's infrastructure while providing technical support to the organization by understanding cloud-based infrastructure. In this role you will implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, including state management and automated deployments. You will also provide advanced support for Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Synapse Analytics, Spark Notebooks, and Azure SQL.
Responsibilities:
- Identify technical risks, align enterprise backup architecture and develop enterprise-ready DR solutions
- Point person for enterprise cloud design specifications, risk analysis, integration
- Analyze and approve complex designs across engineering disciplines, documenting risks and ensuring risk controls and requirements are met
- Ensure inclusion of inputs into product and technical design reviews from cross functional stakeholders
- Anticipate technical challenges and risk scenarios and prepare, manage, and execute mitigation strategies to ensure optimal results
- Utilize creative thinking and teamwork to resolve conflicts and make critical decisions relating to systems deliverables
- Collaborate with project management to create and manage schedules for project related work
- Provide engineering consulting and recommendations for new IT systems to ensure the interoperability and adherence to technology standards and policies
- Serve as a lead for group projects as well as internal IT and business driven initiatives
- Define and monitor multiple project priorities and provide technical and administrative supervision; ensure appropriate management is apprised of operational status of projects
- Provide appropriate hardware/software resources for business applications; perform capacity planning, workload modeling/prediction, and purchasing recommendations for new hardware/software upgrades; provide business applications enough resources for their short-term and long-term growth
- Build and Manage CI/CD pipelines and repositories such as GitHub or Azure Devops for maintaining code
- Point person for enterprise cloud design specifications, risk analysis, integration
- Design and deploy new and existing systems in IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments, selecting appropriate cloud services, including migrations from on-premises to cloud
- Manage, support, and maintain cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP) to ensure optimal performance and reliability
- Monitor and analyze cloud environments to optimize performance, improve reliability, scale applications, and manage costs efficiently
- Develop and maintain microservices (such as Azure Logic Apps and Function Apps) for automation and integration
- Design and implement backup strategies and disaster recovery solutions for cloud workload
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelors Degree - Computer Science, IT or related - Minimum
Years of Experience:
- 5 years - Design, configuration, deployment and administration of cloud services or related - Minimum
- Understanding of AI platforms and models, including AI Foundry
- Deep Expertise in cloud providers Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Infrastructure as Code (ex. Terraform, Ansible), Data Platforms (ex. Azure Synapse, Databricks, Microsoft/Azure SQL), Containerization (ex. Docker, Kubernetes),
- Knowledge of Backup Solutions (ex. CommVault), Hypervisors (ex. VMWare vSphere), DNS, Monitoring & Logging tools/analysis (ex. CloudWatch, Prometheus), Scripting languages (ex. Powershell, Python and Bash)
In Lieu of Education:
- 8 years - Design, configuration, deployment and administration pf network hardware and software
Compensation & Benefits:
Typical hiring range: $128,500 - $186,300 Annually. Actual compensation will be determined using factors such as experience, skills & knowledge.
