About the role
The Project Safety Lead / Manager is responsible for ensuring that Diageo Global Engineering Safety policies, standards and best practices are effectively implemented across all Capital Expenditure (Capex) projects in Türkiye.
The role provides safety leadership throughout the full project lifecycle and acts as the key interface between Diageo Global Engineering Safety teams and local Project Delivery / Execution Managers.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead engineering, construction and commissioning safety across assigned Capex projects.
- Ensure compliance with both Diageo Global and Türkiye Engineering Safety Policies and Minimum Requirements.
- Embed Safety by Design principles from early project phases.
- Work closely with Project Delivery/Execution Managers to integrate safety into execution.
- Act as primary interface with Global Engineering Safety teams.
- Lead and support risk assessments (HAZOP, RAMS, GRMS).
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor safety performance using DGE Safety Statistics portal.
- Provide visible safety leadership on site.
- Support audits, assurance activities and reviews.
- Lead incident, near miss and unsafe condition investigations and root cause analysis.
- Monitor construction safety performance (leading and lagging metrics) and based on identified trends help Engineering Teams determine and implement corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned.
Experience / skills required
- Engineering degree with additional safety training or recognised safety qualification.
- Minimum 5 years' on-site project or construction experience.
- Experience supervising projects of similar nature, scale and complexity.
- Strong construction safety acumen with knowledge of construction process, construction safety, behavioural-based safety and contractor management.
- Knowledge of fire safety and machinery safety principles is preferred; familiarity with relevant standards or certifications (e.g. NFPA, CMSE, ISO 13849, ISO 12100) is an advantage.
- Proven track record in leading change and influencing safety on capital expenditure projects from conception through implementation.
- NEBOSH certification is preferred.
- A valid Turkish Ministry of Labour OHS Specialist certification (Class A, B, or C)
Qualifications & Experience - Preferred
- Experience in industrial/manufacturing Capex projects.
- Experience working in multinational or global organizations.
