Description
SummaryThe Recreation Manager oversees all daily operations of the Recreation Department at Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, including complimentary guest activities, paid group experiences and wellness programming. This role requires a creative, flexible and highly organized leader who can manage year‑round operations and scale the team during the busy summer season to support beach and on‑water activities. The Recreation Manager will report directly to the Director of Spa & Wellness, supporting departmental initiatives, daily operations and administrative functions to ensure smooth, efficient and guest‑focused experiences.
Prior Hyatt experience is strongly preferred.
Key Areas of Responsibilities include:
Leadership & Team Management
• Lead, motivate and develop the Recreation team to deliver safe, engaging and memorable guest experiences.
• Oversee hiring, training and supervision of year-round and seasonal staff during peak summer months.
• Foster a positive, inclusive and high‑performance culture aligned with Hyatt values.
• Conduct regular team meetings, coaching sessions and performance check‑ins.
• Support and administer Colleague Experience Survey to understand and enhance the overall colleague experience in the department.
Administrative Excellence
• Full responsibility with payroll management, scheduling and team administration.
• Manage inventory, equipment maintenance, supply ordering and record‑keeping.
• Support budgeting and financial planning to maximize revenue opportunities, maintain cost efficiencies and ensure forecast accuracy.
• Track participation, guest satisfaction and revenue performance to drive data‑based improvements.
• Maintain documentation, SOPs, safety policies, and program calendars.
Health, Safety & Risk Management
• Ensure compliance with Hyatt safety standards and applicable regulations.
• Conduct regular equipment and facility inspections.
• Provide emergency response and safety training for staff.
• Develop clear training standards for guest service, water safety, equipment handling, and recreation programming.
• Maintain accurate safety logs, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
Operations & Guest Experience
• Plan, schedule and execute complimentary daily activities, paid group programming and wellness offerings.
• Ensure safety and smooth operations for all recreation and beach equipment, especially during summer.
• Partner closely with the Director of Spa & Wellness to enhance existing programs and develop new guest experiences.
• Collaborate with departments such as Spa, Front Office, F&B and Engineering to ensure seamless guest service.
• Train and develop colleagues to meet Forbes customer service expectations
Qualifications
• 2+ years of recreation, hospitality, or relevant leadership experience (Hyatt experience preferred).
• Strong administrative skills, including payroll, scheduling, and communication.
• Creative mindset and ability to design engaging guest programs.
• Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
• Ability to stay calm, flexible, and solutions‑focused in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience with outdoor, beach, or on‑water activities.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varied environments.
• Comfortable with physical activity including hiking, lifting up to 40 lbs, and operating recreation equipment.
• Flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
