Tectonic Engineering is seeking experienced geotechnical professionals for two exciting assignments supporting major mining and underground construction projects.

Senior Ground Control / Geotechnical Engineer – Mining:

Location: Western Nevada
Duration: Approximately 12-Month Assignment

Schedule: 3-5 days onsite every other week (subject to project needs)

Engagement: Full-time employment or contract/consulting arrangement may be considered based on candidate qualifications and availability

Travel & Lodging: For independent consultants, compensation may instead be structured as a competitive day rate, with project-related travel and lodging covered separately.

Compensation: $156,000-$208,000 annualized, depending on experience, qualifications, schedule, and engagement structure. Independent consultants may also be considered on a competitive day-rate basis.

This is a highly field-focused position responsible for evaluating rock mass and slope conditions and providing practical, real-time recommendations for rock reinforcement, stabilization, and ground support within an active mining environment.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field;
•  10+ years of experience in ground control, rock mechanics, slope stability, or mine geotechnical engineering
•  Strong open-pit and/or hard-rock mining experience preferred
• Experience evaluating rock mass conditions and ground support systems
• P.E. or P.G. preferred
• MSHA experience a plus

Senior Engineering Geologist / Tunnel Engineer:

Location: New York City

Duration: Multi-Year Assignment (anticipated 2-3 years)

Schedule: Full-time, project-based field assignment

Compensation: $110,000-$160,000, depending on experience, licensure, qualifications, and project responsibilities

This is a field-based position supporting underground construction as part of the project’s design-build team. The successful candidate will perform rock face mapping and rock mass evaluation during tunnel, cavern, and excavation and provide technical input regarding ground conditions and temporary rock support. The project will involve both TBM and drill-and-blast excavation methods. 

Key Qualifications:

• NYS Professional Geologist (P.G.) or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required
• Extensive underground construction, tunneling, or geotechnical experience
• Expertise in rock face mapping and rock mass characterization
• Experience with shotcrete, rock bolts, grouting, and tunnel support systems
• Familiarity with TBM and drill-and-blast methods preferred
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project locations as required.
