Description
Job Summary
The Service Technician II performs intermediate-level diagnostics, repairs, and component replacements on transit buses with minimal supervision. This role supports service and warranty operations by completing campaign repairs, assisting with pre-delivery inspections (PDI), and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems in accordance with OEM standards. The technician is expected to use service documentation, engineering guidance, and diagnostic tools to resolve complex issues and serves as a mentor to entry-level technicians.
Key Responsibilities
Perform intermediate mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs and component replacements
Conduct and support pre-delivery inspections (PDI) to ensure vehicles meet quality standards
Diagnose system faults using schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic software
Repair or replace components including pumps, valves, wiring, relays, hoses, brakes, and assemblies
Accurately complete service records and repair documentation
Support installation of upgraded systems and new components
Follow safety protocols and proper tool handling procedures
Provide coaching and technical support to junior technicians
Participate in technical training and skills development
Travel regularly to customer sites and service locations as required
Requirements
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Technical or vocational training in automotive, diesel, or industrial systems preferred
2–4 years of hands-on mechanical and electrical repair experience
Valid driver’s license required
Required Skills & Knowledge
Intermediate knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Ability to read wiring diagrams, blueprints, and service documentation
Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair software
Experience working with heavy-duty vehicle systems (engines, transmissions, air brakes, suspension, and electrical components)
Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
Willingness to travel frequently, including overnight assignments
