Position Overview:

This role is ideal for a commercial banking focused professional with portfolio management experience in a sponsor‑focused environment. The Associate will lead credit underwriting and portfolio monitoring processes in accordance with bank policies, and exhibit sound credit principles in line with BMO's risk appetite

Key Responsibilities:

• Review credit structures, assess risk, and provide clear, well‑reasoned recommendations to Credit.
• Prepare concise and accurate credit correspondence that clearly reflects deal structures, key risks, mitigants, and sponsor considerations.
• Identify, analyze, and articulate sources of repayment and structural concerns.
• Monitor borrower performance and identify trends, escalating issues as appropriate.
• Conduct periodic and ad hoc credit reviews where enhanced monitoring is warranted.
• Adhere to internal credit policies to manage and minimize risk exposure.
• Assist Relationship Manager in structuring, proposing, and negotiating loan terms.
• Support execution of strategic and operational initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders .
• Build and maintain effective working relationships across the organization and with clients.
• Independently manage complex credit facilities, including specialized or non‑standard structures.
• Participate in client meetings and contribute to relationship planning by identifying potential sales opportunities.
• Maintain a strong customer service orientation and openness to performance feedback.
• Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of commercial lending or related experience.
• Bachelor's degree required; Finance, Business, Economics or Accounting preferred.
• Knowledge of fund finance and private equity fundamentals.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to review and recommend complex credit structures.
• Ability to receive, internalize, and apply feedback with professionalism, using guidance constructively to support continuous growth and improved outcomes.

Salary:

$69,000.00 - $127,800.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
