Job overview and responsibilities:
The Senior Manager - Airport Operations, primary responsibility is to provide strategic planning and tactical management for ORD United's Aircraft Deicing /Anti-Icing Program (ADAP). Additional responsibilities may include Aircraft Move Teams (United and United Express), APU Reduction Team and additional Ramp functions as required. This leader will ensure these core operational teams consistently perform at a high level of preparedness and execution in order to support ORD's re-banked schedule and growth plan.
The leader's organizational duties specific to Aircraft Deicing will encompass shared partnership with Ramp Services leadership both in and off season ensuring daily base coverage of aircraft deicing teams and planning /execution for moderate to large scale Winter Operations deicing events. Oversight areas of the de-icing program will also include training, safety, and glycol fluid management; proper de-ice truck allocations and compliance with all required regulatory components. This role will also have central project management responsibilities associated with the ORD's new Airfield Deicing Pad Facility being opened this winter ensuring United's operational success.
Expanded scope duties will include oversight of the hub operation especially during irregular or emergency events. Additional oversight of Aircraft Deicing and Airfield related global real estate projects, Business Continuity and Emergency Response planning and execution. The leader is responsible for improving efficiency and supporting strategic business objectives directly related to Winter Operations and APU burn reduction targets and the development and motivation of personnel. The leader will be actively involved in local and airport community events supporting ORD Hub outreach objectives.
- Ensure aircraft deicing team is properly resourced for current and future flight schedule growth, irregular ops and changing weather demands. Direct liaison with CDA and FAA Air Traffic leadership on Deicing Pad and aircraft move operational procedures and airfield safety.
- Foresee future challenges and communicate the course of action necessary in a core4 fashion to achieve both station and enterprise success. This includes future growth and expansion planning related to United Next. Strategic planning and oversight of ORD TAP (Terminal Airport Project)
- Coordinate with other departments including scheduling, operational analysis, and others to enhance the ORD schedule stability and increase effectiveness in the operation
- Oversee resolution of all operational critical issues involving any department, service provider and/or governmental agency; escalate operational critical issues to senior leadership
- Manage IRROPs strategic planning and funnel ops critical communication to station senior leadership across all divisions
- Manage staffing for Assistant Managers (L5) and provide performance leadership and guidance to the SOC team and Hub organization, interfacing with departmental leaders, peers and colleagues. Work with business partners such as governmental authorities and vendor partnership leaders.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience (Business, Project Management, or Airline Operations)
- 5+ years of experience in a strategic operational role required (Airline/Airport related Preferred)
- 3+ years of leadership experience with projects and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders
- Proven track record for decisive action backed by strategic planning, continuous improvement, analytical thinking, goal-directed leadership and service-oriented performance
- Ability to work in a time constrained, very high-pressure environment.
- Excellent communication, analytical and IRROPs management skills.
- Excellent command of software systems that interface with System operations, gating, and ramp/customer service
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

The base pay range for this role is $124,735.00 to $162,388.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
