Starting Salary: $81,636
This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under supervision, the class performs professional tax auditing duties working independently on routine to moderately complex auditing assignments of accounting and financial records to determine compliance with municipal tax ordinances, tax laws, and related regulations; and performs related duties as required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Meets with various parties (e.g., company representatives, internal executives, staff, other department members) to discuss the audit process, present an audit schedule, and request financial and tax documents
• Examines detailed accounting records, tax filings, and computerized ledgers, requiring in-depth analysis of fiscal and operational practices to determine compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), the Municipal Tax Ordinance, applicable laws, funding agency, and contract specifications.
• Interprets tax ordinances, contract specifications, and reporting requirements to business managers and delegate agency personnel.
• Reviews tax returns, financial statements, invoices, and supporting documentation to verify reported revenues and determine the correct tax liability of business establishments.
• Audits transactions, invoices, journals, and bank statements of delegate agencies and city businesses to ensure compliance with funding source and contract requirements, and recommends corrective action for contract violations or potential violations of tax codes.
• Computes taxes owed, including penalties for businesses found to be in non-compliance with the tax ordinance.
• Organizes and analyzes financial data using computerized systems and spreadsheets to compile and present audit findings and recommendations.
• Prepares summaries of tax findings for inclusion on comprehensive reports

• Participates in special audit investigations and in the preparation of related reports
• Assists in gathering financial records, conducting preliminary reviews, and supporting senior auditor personnel in complex audits

Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting
Should the above criteria not be fulfilled, the following options are acceptable:
o Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher in a field of study related to Accounting, including 15 credit hours in Accounting, or the equivalent quarter hours.
