The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of a
University Professor
of
Signal Processing and High Frequency Engineering
at the Department of Mechatronics at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences.
It is a position in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities’ Act (Universitätsgesetz - UG) and will be based on a civil-law employment contract with the University on the basis of the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz). The contract is permanent, with full-time employment (100%).
Responsibilities
The chair-holder is expected to represent the subject of "Signal Processing and High Frequency Engineering" both in research and teaching. The professorship's potential research focus areas may include (in alphabetical order):
- Audio signal processing (in particular speech processing)
- Digital signal processing
- Hardware-oriented signal processing
- Machine learning and deep learning for signal processing and high frequency engineering
- Multisensor systems / sensor data fusion
- Real-time signal processing (especially implants)
- Signal and information theory
- Transmission and communication systems (especially high frequency technology)
Future research activities are expected to include nationally and internationally funded projects in basic and applied research, conducted in close collaboration with other scientific institutions and industry partners. Close cooperation with related fields and research centers within the faculty, relevant professorships at UMIT TIROL, as well as the research focus areas of the University of Innsbruck (https://www.uibk.ac.at/en/research/profile/researchfocussystem/), and a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration are also expected.
In teaching, the field "Signal Processing and High Frequency Technology" should be covered in the relevant degree programs offered by the Faculty of Engineering Sciences.
Personal involvement in academic administration and self-governance as well as in the department’s and faculty’s working groups will form another essential duty.
Requirements
Employment requirements include
a) a degree in higher education in Austria or the equivalent abroad, pertinent to the position;
b) a relevant habilitation or an equivalent qualification (e.g. Associate Professor);
c) publications in leading international peer-reviewed academic journals;
d) evidence of involvement in international research;
e) experience in interdisciplinary collaboration;
f) experience in the acquisition and management of competitive third-party funding;
g) pronounced teaching skills;
h) management skills;
i) the ability to teach in English;
j) German language proficiency is not required initially; however, the successful candidate is expected to attain a proficiency level of B2 within 2 years.
Furthermore, relevant international experience abroad and relevant non-university practice are desirable.

In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, professors are classified under remuneration group A1. The base salary for a full-time professorship is €6,604.30, paid 14 times per year.
