The Metrology Quality/Geometry Engineer will lead dimensional project improvements on the vehicle, through part, tooling, or design actions. This position works with metrology center, plant, and validation team members to analyze complex parts and sub-assemblies (sheet metal, exterior and interior). This position also works with complex tooling and assembly fixtures using various measurement systems such as Meisterbach, Quality Assurance Fixtures, Laser Trackers, CMMs and In-Line Vision Stations. The person in this position is responsible for the supervision of skilled trades (layout personnel) and coaches team members through the collection, analysis, and organization of data from multiple sources to ensure data integrity to identify top issues and potential root causes. This position will work with production personnel, plant quality engineers and supplier quality to recommend and validate proposed solutions including verifying effectiveness of corrective actions implemented through data analysis. He/she proactively monitors overall metrics and works with cross-functional teams to drive variation reduction of critical product and process characteristics.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
Associate degree in a technical field with 3+ years of relevant experience in Dimensional Control, GD&T, and/or Manufacturing Process Engineering Understanding of metrology equipment for root cause diagnostics (Scanning, CMM, Laser Trackers, and Vision systems) Knowledgeable in Gage and inspection standards Strong understanding of the capabilities of stamping/assembly manufacturing processes Experience solving dimensional and functional issues such as wind noise, water leak, squeak and rattle body interior and/or exterior related Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex phenomenon and resolutions Ability to work as part of a team approach to problem solving
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and PowerPoint Proficient at the use of various data analysis techniques Knowledge of basic statistics and SPC concepts as applied to manufacturing processes
