The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for multiple full-time, nine-month, Career-Track faculty positions at the Scholarly Assistant Professor or Scholarly Associate Professor rank. The position will be considered for a 2-year fixed term appointment (with renewal contingent upon performance). The positions will be based at WSU’s main campus in Pullman, Washington. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2027.
These positions are primarily teaching-focused intended for candidates who are strongly committed to excellence in undergraduate education, student mentorship, curriculum development, and continuous improvement of academic programs.
The school anticipates hiring faculty to support the following areas:
Artificial Intelligence: Teaching and curriculum development in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, agentic AI, responsible AI/ethics, programming and foundations for AI, AI systems, robotics, and human computer interaction.
General Computer Science: Teaching core and advanced undergraduate courses in areas such as programming, data structures, algorithms, databases, software engineering, computer systems, web and mobile development, and related areas.
Depending on programmatic needs, successful candidates may teach courses across the Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Cybersecurity. Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of the successful candidates will include:
Primarily teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in computer science, artificial intelligence, software engineering, computer engineering, cybersecurity, data analytics, and related areas.
Developing new courses and updating existing courses to meet evolving disciplinary, programmatic, and workforce needs.
Contributing to the design and implementation of coursework for WSU’s developing Artificial Intelligence program.
Participating in continuous teaching assessment, accreditation, and program-improvement activities.
Applying evidence-based and student-centered teaching practices.
Mentoring, advising, and effectively communicating with students.
Contributing to departmental, college, university, and professional service appropriate to a Career-Track faculty appointment.
Collaborating respectfully and productively with faculty, staff, students, industry partners, and other stakeholders.
Appointment
These are full-time, nine-month, Career-Track faculty appointments at the Scholarly Assistant Professor or Scholarly Associate Professor rank.
Anticipated Start Date
January 1, 2027.
Nine-Month Academic-Year Salary
Scholarly Assistant Professor: $95,000 - 105,000
Scholarly Associate Professor: $105,000 - 125,000
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110,https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Requirements
Required Qualifications for Scholarly Assistant Professor:
Master’s in Computer Science or a related discipline by December 15, 2026.
Demonstrate strong teaching, communication, and leadership skills, with experience or demonstrated potential in developing and delivering curricula in artificial intelligence, computer science, or related areas. Relevant academic or industry experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications for Scholarly Assistant Professor:
PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline by December 15, 2026.
Required Qualifications for Scholarly Associate Professor
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related discipline.
A sustained record of effective undergraduate teaching and student mentorship.
Demonstrated experience in course and curriculum development.
Demonstrated academic or professional leadership appropriate for appointment at the Associate Professor rank.
Ability to teach courses in artificial intelligence and/or general computer science.
Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
Demonstrated commitment to supporting an accessible and inclusive educational environment consistent with WSU’s land-grant mission.
Preferred Qualifications for Scholarly Associate Professor
Demonstrated leadership in curriculum development, program assessment, educational innovation, mentoring, and academic, industry, or professional service.
