ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER
Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection
Operations Management
Number of Positions: 1
( Additional vacancies are possible pending budget approval )
Annual Starting Salary Range $121,668 up to $137,532
Applications for this position will be accepted beginning 4-21-26 until 11:59pm 5-1-26.
This position is a senior manager responsible for the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protections executive level staff and department functions; serves as the subject matter expert on the City of Chicago's business license database, online business license application and other technology platforms related to business licensing and regulation and performs other related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Leads a staff of (7) to ensure accountability and quality of work.
• Prioritizes performance standards for the team and bureau.
• Ensures that all systems are fully operational and maintained to optimize performance and service to the public.
• Coordinates and facilitates the needs of multiple interdepartmental functions while staying aligned with managers from other departments bureaus using the same systems.
• Coordinates with City contractor on current, ongoing and upcoming projects for system improvements.
• Provides strategic planning for the development of technological needs related to business licensing and other departmental functions.
• Partners with the Department of Technology and Innovation to ensure projects are accurate and complete.
• Guides information technology development, implementation, and support across the department.
• Manages requests from staff while prioritizing data integrity.
• Maintains operational needs for all users across platforms.
• Strategizes to ensure BACP is prepared for new challenges and responsibilities.
• Reports progress and outcomes with data-informed approach.
• Serves as an advisor to the Commissioner, First Deputy Commissioner and other department leadership.

THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE
Qualifications
Nine (9) years of experience related to the responsibilities of the position, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position,
OR
Graduation from an accredited college with an associate degree in a field related to the duties performed, including seven (7) years of work experience related to the position, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position,
OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a field related to the duties performed, including five (5) years of work experience related to the position, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position,
OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree or higher in a field related to the duties performed, including four (4) years of work experience related to the position, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview, will be selected.
