Job Description
Data Platform Engineer - Enterprise Common Data Model / Common Data Layer (CDM/CDL)
Pune / Bangalore / Noida, India
Position Summary
As a Senior Data Platform Engineer - Enterprise Common Data Model/Common Data Layer (CDM/CDL), you will design, develop, and deliver scalable data management solutions that power Rockwell Automation's Enterprise Data Platform. You will report to the Technical Leader - CDM/CDL and work in a hybrid capacity.
You will collaborate with technical leads, analysts, architects, integration teams, product owners, and business stakeholders to build and evolve enterprise data products, canonical data models, and scalable data services that enable trusted, reusable, and governed data across the organization.
Your Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain relational and canonical data models using Azure SQL Database, including tables, views, stored procedures, functions, keys, constraints, and indexes.
- Develop high-quality, performant T-SQL code and optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, dependency analysis, and controlled schema management.
- Design, build, test, and maintain data acquisition, integration, and transformation pipelines using Microsoft Azure PaaS services and DevOps methodologies.
- Architect data structures and pipelines that enable "Data as a Service" capabilities across business units while ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
- Collaborate with integration teams to define data contracts, database interfaces, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Contribute to the evolution of the CDM/CDL platform using technologies such as Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Integration Services.
- Manage CI/CD pipelines, release processes, and deployment automation using Azure DevOps and Git-based workflows.
- Support containerization and cloud deployment practices that enable scalable and resilient platform operations.
- Work closely with analysts, product owners, architects, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver high-quality enterprise data solutions.
- Support data governance, data quality, metadata management, and enterprise architecture initiatives.
The Essentials - You Will Have
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Strong experience in Azure SQL Database, SQL Server, T-SQL programming, relational database design, and data modeling.
- Experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale data integration and transformation solutions.
- Experience across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile delivery methodologies.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.
- Strong understanding of database performance tuning, schema versioning, and platform engineering best practices.
- Make architectural trade-offs and deliver scalable solutions that meet evolving business needs.
The Preferred - You Might Also Have
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, Software Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Experience with modern Azure data platform technologies including Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Data Factory (ADF), Microsoft Fabric, and Azure Integration Services.
- Experience building enterprise common data models, canonical data models, or master data solutions.
- Experience working with business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
- Familiarity with Data as a Service (DaaS), data governance, data quality, and metadata management practices.
- Experience with containerization and cloud-native deployment architectures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
- Experience working in a global enterprise environment with cross-functional teams.
- Exposure to enterprise architecture frameworks and large-scale platform modernization initiatives.
