Since opening in 2024, Thompson Palm Springs has quickly established itself as the desert's most coveted lifestyle resort in the heart of downtown Palm Springs. Showcasing iconic mid-century modern design, bungalow-inspired accommodations, iconic dining, and vibrant social experiences, the resort has become a sought-after destination for discerning travelers, luxury weddings, milestone celebrations, brand activations, corporate retreats, and high-profile events.
The resort features Lola Rose, a bold Eastern Mediterranean dining experience inspired by the spice markets of Istanbul and the seasonal bounty of California, alongside Bar Issi, an elevated coastal Italian concept that blends relaxed luxury with coastal culinary sophistication. Two expansive pool experiences, immersive mountain views, the HALL Napa Valley Tasting Room, and over 35,000 square feet of dynamic indoor and outdoor event venues provide endless opportunities for unforgettable gatherings.
Thompson Palm Springs was recently recognized among Condé Nast Traveler's Top 10 Best New Hotels in the World (2026) and ranked the #1 Hotel in Southern California in the Condé Nast Readers' Choice Awards (2025).
The Director of Sales & Marketing is a strategic, visionary, and results-driven leader responsible for driving revenue growth, elevating market positioning, and maximizing profitability across all segments of the business. This executive will oversee all commercial functions including group sales, catering and events, leisure sales, business transient, revenue collaboration, public relations, digital marketing, partnerships, and brand activation.
Reporting directly to the hotel's Managing Director and partnering closely with Hyatt's commercial leadership, the Director of Sales & Marketing serves as a key architect of the resort's business strategy and long-term success.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Leadership
• Develop and execute comprehensive sales and marketing strategies that maximize revenue, market share, and profitability across all business segments.
• Lead the annual business planning process, budget development, revenue forecasting, and strategic market analysis.
• Drive market positioning efforts to strengthen Thompson Palm Springs as the premier lifestyle luxury resort destination in the desert.
• Identify emerging opportunities and trends while developing innovative strategies to outperform competitive market conditions.
• Maintain accountability for achieving all sales, catering, and revenue objectives.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
• Build, inspire, and lead a best-in-class sales and marketing organization focused on performance, collaboration, and accountability.
• Recruit, mentor, coach, and develop high-performing sales leaders and future talent.
• Foster a culture of innovation, creativity, urgency, and exceptional customer service.
• Establish clear performance expectations and ensure continuous professional development for all team members.
Luxury Group, Catering & Special Events
• Drive strategic group and catering initiatives with a particular emphasis on luxury weddings, social celebrations, incentive travel, corporate retreats, and large-scale productions.
• Develop relationships with key industry influencers, event planners, luxury travel advisors, and meeting professionals.
• Partner closely with resort operations to deliver exceptional experiences that generate repeat business and brand advocacy.
• Ensure Thompson Palm Springs remains a preferred destination for high-profile events and exclusive gatherings.
Marketing & Brand Strategy
• Oversee all marketing initiatives, public relations efforts, partnerships, digital campaigns, content strategy, and brand activations.
• Collaborate with Hyatt and ownership stakeholders to ensure alignment with brand standards and long-term business objectives.
• Drive awareness through innovative programming, community engagement, luxury partnerships, and destination marketing initiatives.
• Champion the resort's lifestyle positioning while creating meaningful connections with local and global audiences.
Financial & Business Acumen
• Maintain ownership of the Sales & Marketing budget, P&L performance, and expense management.
• Deliver accurate revenue forecasting and market intelligence to ownership and corporate partners.
• Present business results, strategic initiatives, and performance updates during ownership and executive review meetings.
• Analyze market trends, pace reports, production metrics, and financial performance to drive informed decision-making.
Qualifications
• Minimum 7+ years of progressive hotel sales leadership experience, preferably within luxury, lifestyle, resort, or destination properties.
• Demonstrated success leading high-performing commercial teams and exceeding revenue objectives.
• Proven experience with luxury group sales, catering, special events, weddings, and resort operations.
• Strong financial acumen with expertise in budgeting, forecasting, revenue strategy, and profit optimization.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, lifestyle-driven environment.
• Experience working with ownership groups, asset managers, and corporate stakeholders preferred.

This is an exempt (salaried) role. The budgeted salary range for this position is $150,000-$200,000 and eligible Incentive Compensation. This is the pay range for this position that Thompson Palm Springs reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors including experience and education. This position is NOT available for remote or Hybrid. Relocation available.
