Description
Location:Kuala Lumpur, MYOur team forms part of L&H Pricing & Portfolio Performance (PPP) within the Chief Underwriting Office (CUO). PPP combines pricing discipline with portfolio oversight to ensure consistent risk management, profitability, and performance across both new business and in-force portfolios.
The L&H Experience Studies (ES) Centre, within PPP, is responsible for the governance, methodologies, and tooling of Experience Studies across L&H Re globally. The ES Centre develops, maintains, and evolves the Experience Studies Platform (ESP) and associated tools, while providing guidance, standards, and expert support to regional teams that execute Experience Studies locally.
This role sits within the Experience Studies Centre and does not run experience studies. Instead, it focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining tools, defining standards, and enabling Experience Studies teams worldwide to run high-quality, consistent studies.
The role is responsible for delivering and continuously improving state-of-the-art analytical tools, platforms, and methodologies that support Experience Studies across L&H. Acting as both a developer and Experience Studies expert, the role provides technical leadership, programming expertise, and methodological guidance to ensure effective, scalable, and well-governed Experience Studies.
This role requires a strong combination of:
- Experience Studies domain expertise (life & health actuarial concepts, methodologies, and interpretation)
- Advanced programming skills, particularly in R, with a strong focus on analytical tooling and platform development
- Ability to work at the intersection of business, actuarial methodology, and technology
- Strong communication skills to guide, enable, and influence global teams without directly executing studies
Key Responsibilities
Platform and Tool Development
- Design, develop, and maintain components of the global Experience Studies Platform (ESP), including the analytics engine, results databases, reporting layers, and tracking capabilities.
- Translate Experience Studies concepts and business needs into robust, reusable analytical solutions, primarily using R and other relevant technologies.
- Ensure tools are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with global standards.
Technical Guidance and Enablement
- Provide expert technical and methodological guidance to Experience Studies teams, enabling them to run studies efficiently and consistently using centrally developed tools.
- Act as the bridge between Experience Studies expertise and IT development, translating functional requirements into clear technical specifications, prototypes, or example implementations.
- Support IT developers with domain knowledge to ensure correct and high-quality implementation.
Governance and Standards
- Contribute to and uphold a strong governance framework covering Experience Studies tools, methodologies, and processes.
- Balance global consistency with regional flexibility by defining standards, best practices, and guardrails for Experience Studies execution.
- Ensure alignment with CUO and PPP objectives for risk, profitability, and performance.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with IT, external vendors, and internal partners on the development and evolution of the ESP.
- Foster strong collaboration with regional and central Experience Studies teams, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing.
- Actively contribute to the L&H Experience Studies Expert Group, shaping the future direction of Experience Studies capability.
Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
- Plan, review, and oversee development work to ensure accuracy, robustness, and adherence to specifications.
- Perform functional testing of new features and enhancements, providing structured feedback to improve solution quality.
- Identify opportunities to enhance tools, automation, and analytical approaches based on user feedback and emerging best practices.
Training and Capability Building
- Develop and maintain training materials covering Experience Studies concepts, methodologies, and the use of centrally developed R-based tools.
- Deliver training and knowledge-sharing sessions to actuaries and Experience Studies practitioners globally.
- Support capability uplift across regions by promoting consistent use of tools and methodologies.
About you:
- Experience: You should have over 5 years of experience in the Life & Health (L&H) actuarial domain.
- Actuarial Qualification: You are either already qualified or actively working towards obtaining an actuarial qualification.
- Technical Expertise: Prior experience in experience studies and a strong knowledge of the R programming language are essential.
- IT Proficiency: You should be technically minded and comfortable working on IT-related topics.
- Product Knowledge: Expertise in a variety of L&H products, ideally across multiple global markets and regions, is required.
- Collaboration Skills: You must have the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels of the organization and work towards common solutions.
- Teamwork and Independence: You should be capable of working both independently and as part of a team, including cross-functional teams, to ensure successful delivery.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, project planning, and influential skills are essential
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills are necessary, along with the ability and courage to constructively challenge decisions based on emerging information. You should also have a business mindset to be solutions-oriented.
- Consultant Mindset: You should have a consultant mindset, with the ability to listen to users and help solve their problems effectively.
