Job Summary
The Designer is responsible for developing, designing, and improving products from concept through production while ensuring customer requirements, quality standards, and project objectives are achieved. This role combines technical design expertise, creativity, and project coordination to create innovative product solutions, support manufacturing processes, and drive continuous product improvement. The Designer works closely with engineering, product management, manufacturing, and project teams to develop detailed designs, technical documentation, and product enhancements that meet customer and business needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Create 3D models, layouts, and assemblies for new products and product enhancements.
Develop detailed engineering drawings, production documentation, bills of materials, and specifications.
Revise existing product designs and manufacturing drawings as required.
Perform tolerance analysis and verify dimensions, materials, and design requirements.
Prepare and process engineering change notices (ECNs) and communicate design revisions to relevant departments.
Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to define customer requirements and product functionality.
Generate innovative concepts for new products, product improvements, and cost-reduction initiatives.
Coordinate design projects while balancing technical requirements, timelines, and budget constraints.
Conduct product testing, life-cycle evaluations, and field performance assessments.
Analyze product performance and identify opportunities for safety, quality, and durability improvements.
Develop recommendations for product modifications that improve customer satisfaction, product performance, or manufacturing efficiency.
Support manufacturing teams by resolving design-related issues and ensuring accurate production implementation.
Maintain design documentation and engineering records within company systems.
Utilize CAD software and engineering tools to develop accurate and efficient product designs.
Participate in cross-functional project meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements / Skills
Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field.
Minimum five years of design, drafting, or product development experience.
Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Experience using Microsoft Office applications and ERP/MRP systems.
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of engineering principles.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to develop creative design solutions while considering cost, manufacturability, and customer requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with project management tools and methodologies.
Familiarity with engineering data management systems.
Knowledge of manufacturing materials, processes, and emerging technologies.
Experience leading or coordinating engineering and design projects.
Understanding of product lifecycle management and continuous improvement practices.
